KUCDG AT KAKAMEGA

A REPORT ON THE 2012 NATIONAL DRAMA FESTIVALS HELD AT KAKAMEGA
Kisii University College Drama Group (KUCDG) wish to extend its special accolades to the administration, led by Prof. Akama, for its continued support in ensuring great nurturing of individual talents and bringing them together to create entertainment.
This year, the group had four items, that is;
  1. a play
  2. solo verse
  3. choral verse
  4. narrative

The group left for Kakamega on 12th April, 2012 and presented its first item, a solo verse-ER, on 13th April 2012, the second and third items, narrative-ESHOMBO and play-THE MIRAGE, on 14th April 2012 and the last item, choral verse-TAA YANGU, on 15th April 2012. Among the items presented, the choral verse was rated best and thus qualified to be presented in the Gala on 18th April 2012 before the Minister for Education, Hon. Mutula Kilonzo plus other dignitaries.
The group, through its sterling performance in the verse, was awarded with six certificates in the following categories;
1.      Best item on drug abuse
2.      Runners up overall
3.      Best choral verse in Swahili
4.      Best composed verse
5.      Best presentation choral verse

While at the festival, the greatest challenge was getting conducive accommodation but through the struggle of the Patron, Mr. Andima and Brother Francis, we managed to get one just near Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (IJHAB HOSTELS).
The group managed to exhaustively tour Kakamega town and familiarize themselves with beautiful sceneries like Muliro gardens, Golf Hotel, The Crying Stone, Kakamega forest among others. The group also interacted with students and intellects from other institutions, not just about drama, but also on professional matters.
Having presented the institution well, the group left Kakamega on 19th April 2012 and travelled safely through Kendubay to Kisii.
